Just wanted to say thanks for another great week at camp. You folks have it down to a well-tuned machine, and the staff this year is simply outstanding.
To think that we could arrive at week 8, (eight!) with summer nearly gone, and be met with such joy, such selfless giving, such tireless enthusiasm for life and the gospel . . .
I know from my own years working in camps that the staff is not compensated financially anything near what they deserve. But this year's summer staff could be paid 10 times what they receive and would still be underpaid.
In case it's not obvious, I cannot say enough good things about them, and I hope you will pass along our family's appreciation for all their hard work, winning smiles, and heavenly voices.
Camp has devoted fans, and the Baums count ourselves among the most rabid!!!
Thanks, my friend!

Beyond camp's influence on my childhood, my 4 summers on camp staff remain such an incredibly special and influential time in my life. You can be exactly who you are at camp, without fear of passing judgments or expectations. Society often pressures us to be a certain way, and camp is a great respite from these pressures. As a college student, I was able to grow in my understanding of who I was as a friend, role model, worker, and child of God. I have memories to last a lifetime. Thanks be to God!

This past year has been a particularly challenging year for the Huston household, so we were looking forward to camp even more so than usual, and I am overjoyed to say it did not disappoint. I cannot begin to express just how much camp means to us. From the moment we drove up to the moment we started our 15 hour journey home, we found ourselves in a safe haven full of peace and support, and surrounded with love. There is so much creativity and laughter here, so many great memories. The highlight of our week was the staff (they are STELLAR), reuniting with all the families we camp with, and the teen group. Probably my favorite memory of the week was the teens all gathering around David Bockelman, a 4 year old with multiple medical issues that have delayed him developmentally. Typically people look at David and whisper or shy away from him because of his differences. At camp, he was simply recognized as the child of God he is. I love that and I’m quite certain that God looks down at this place, he is smiling. We have been coming to camp for nine years now, and I can honestly say the staff and families there aren’t just people we camp with for a week – they are family, in the very best sense of the word.

I've been coming to camp since my husband, Greg, brought me to the place he loved as a young boy when we were still in college. We have been bringing our kids for nearly 20 years now. I think one of the most memorable events at camp was about 4 years ago. Ryan Britton was covering for aquasize and he turned it into "synchronized swimming". Each day, more and more women came out to join Ryan's posse! It was the first time so many women got into the pool; everyone wanted to be included! But the best part was the "show" we put on for the entire camp on the last day. Performing to the tune "Girls just wanna have fun", all the women wore special caps (they looked the bags surgeons wear on their heads!), and the routine was flawless - complete with the "ever spectacular Ryan" as he became the fountain that shot out of the center for the finale!

Camp Luther was amazing! We have finally found the annual vacation we will be taking with our children for many years to come. The memories, friendships, and faith experiences of the week are indescribable!

My oldest son went to camp this summer for the first time and well, he cried when I picked him up. Very different from most kids reaction "I know". Going back to camp is a daily discussion with him. He had a blast and can not wait until next year.

This was my family's fourth year at camp on campership. We grow as Mother and Daughter each week we spend there. This year I was taught that God works in wonderfully unexpected ways. I am grateful to receive the campership because without it I would have probably never really known what God's love was truly about. The sound of laughter from our children and the birds are amazing. Thank you to my new family members, all of you at Family Week 4. Your love will never be forgotten.

Camp is such a special place to me. We have been going for about 10 years, but last year, we were not able to go. We are going Week 8 this year and I am counting the days. This has been a very stressful year for me and camp has never looked so good! I can't wait to see the new bluff, sing goofy songs, go to the pool, stay up late playing Demon (a card game) with my friends, watch my kids be in the teen Discovery group, sit in the outdoor chapel and sit around the candles Friday night. In spite of that long list, the most important part of camp is just BEING there. It's a chance to listen to God without all the noise of everyday life. For me, that makes it a little easier to hear Him once I'm back in that everyday life. Save me a seat at the puppet show!

Camp is more than just a place I go on vacation. It is a part of me. It has made me who I am today. There isn't really an easy way to say why camp is so amazing because it is more than just the beautiful bluff, dining room fun, and swimming in the pool. Camp is the place it is because of all the people. Every year I leave for camp and I think "This is going to be the best year ever". And every year it is because you really can't compare one year to the next because each is special in its own way. Each year God has blessed me to meet new people to help me grow in my faith. He has given me each one of these people for a special purpose in my life. They help me be strong enough to show His love even when life feels like it is against me. Without this strength I probably would have broken down over this past year because sometimes I didn't think I could get through the day, but then I would see my teen group photo in my locker. It helped me remember that God loves me and that camp would be here soon. It gave me the strength to show Gods love to the people around me even when they were hurting me. I'm not perfect, and far from it, but camp is helping me grow to be the person God wants me to be and that is the best gift anyone could possible give me. Camp is not a week long experience; it is a life-long one. And now returning from another week I know more than ever that I am truly blessed to have camp as part of my life. I hope that someday I can help someone the way that everyone at camp has helped me.

The best experience I have ever had at camp was making friends that last a lifetime. The first year I was at camp was 41 years ago. To this day, I have a really dear friend that even though we may lose touch occasionally, we manage to find each other again. The Friday night candelight service was always so moving. I remember making our own little cross on the concrete in front of our cabin and my father playing the guitar. Everyone was always welcome to come and join our family. That is what Camp means to me, Family, whether it is your family or someone else's, you always feel like family. I remember drench the drip, the summer olympics, all of the program directors who have come and gone, and all of the love and majesty of God for us to behold at sunset everyday.

It's hard to describe a LOMO camp to someone who hasn't experienced it. I've been to Lutheran Memorial Camp a few times and I went to Camp Luther every summer from 1997 to 2007. Those were some of the best times of the summer for those ten years. Each year I would always look forward to the trip to bluff of Lake Erie for another amazing Camp Luther week. The counselors are nothing short of awesome, the camp grounds are never anything but amazing, and the creativity is astounding. I'd have to say that my favorite meal time antics at Camp Luther were those by "Mrs. Craft Hour," which any Camp Luther veteran will no doubt look back and laugh at even today. There is so much to do and experience, and so much fun to be had that it is almost impossible to put into words. If you're considering a LOMO camp then you're in the right place. Camp Luther will always be a place apart simply because of its magic. The only sad part is the Saturday mornings when everyone must part ways and head back into the real world.
Until we meet again.

Without Camp Luther, I wouldn't be here today! (My Finnish grandparents met at the old camp 60+ years ago when it was down the road from where it is now). My grandmother is 80 yrs. old and still comes to Camp Luther annually! And my grandfather helped build the Sauna!

I love camp. I have been going there since I was 4. My favorite summer was our first year and second year. The first year was alot of fun because first we got lost and almost landed in New York. Also just seeing everything for the first time was fun and having no clue what was going on. Now I could do it in my sleep. The second year we went was also very fun, because my father help with the showing of the crafts. He was very into making baskets so they asked him if we would help Matt with the show. It was the funniest things that I have ever seen at camp besides this year, when listening to Josh's laugh. Camp has also helped me grow through God. When not growing through God, there is alot of laughing going on. That is why I love camp.

When I was younger, the only time i looked forward to in the summer was going to camp. There was always something to look forward to. And being completely isolated from society without the air conditioning and television it made life seem so simple. Being so close to the water, I felt so connected to God. Without the experiences of camp I do not believe that i would be anywhere near the person I am today. I finally have found my calling working with my church much like being a camp director but instead I am going on mission trips with my church and interning through them. I have pulled games and ideas I learned from camp to use with my kids. My favorite being the teen game we once played, Intergalactic Space Pirate Odyssey. Not going to camp is a definite mistake if someone is on the fence!
